About The Big Prawn

The Big Prawn is a giant shrimp sculpture of concrete and fiberglass at the entrance to Ballina. It’s one of the so‑called Big Things — huge roadside sculptures that mark towns along Australia’s highways, like the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour.

The prawn was made for a former roadside complex and is promoted as the world’s largest model shrimp. When the land was sold to a chain of stores, the sculpture was restored and placed on a plinth beside the car park entrance.

It’s a quick photo stop, common for travelers driving the coastal route between Sydney, Byron Bay and Brisbane.
