Zug – Zug Destination Zurich Capital

How to get there

  • Flughafen Zürich (ZRH) Kloten · 40 km
  • Bahnhof Zug 1 km

Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

Zug station receives trains every half hour from Zurich and Lucerne; both cities are about 30 km away. Zurich Airport is about 40 km away, with direct trains or with one transfer. From the station to the historic center it is a few minutes on foot.

How many days

Half a day covers the historic center, the Zytturm, the Burg Zug and the waterfront. A full day allows time to ascend the Zugerberg or take a boat ride on the lake. Zug works well as a day trip from Zurich or Lucerne.

When to go

From May to September the waterfront, the boats and the Zugerberg trails are at their best, and the sunset over the lake draws locals. In spring, cherry trees bloom in the region. In winter, the center and the museum remain open, and the Zugerberg can have snow.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. Trains link Zug with Zurich and Lucerne, the old town is small, and a bus takes you from the station to the Zugerberg funicular.
