About La Maison du Gruyère

La Maison du Gruyère is in Pringy, at the foot of the town’s hill, next to the train station. It is a demonstration cheesery dedicated to Gruyère AOP, the hard cheese named for the region.

A glass gallery allows you to follow the cheesemakers’ work at the copper vats, from milk coagulation to the pressing of the wheels. Production usually takes place in the morning.

The exhibition explains the journey of the milk from the pastures to the aging cellar, using audio and scent features that present the herbs and flowers of the region’s mountains. The cellar shows cheese wheels at different stages of aging.

The site has a restaurant and a shop selling local products, including crème double.
