How many days

One day covers the cathedral, the medieval center, the Espace Tinguely and the funicular. With two days, you can descend at a relaxed pace to the lower quarters, walk parts of the walls and reserve a day for Gruyères.

When to go

Between May and October, the weather favors the climbs and descents between the upper town and the lower districts, and the cathedral tower is open. Winter is cold, but the center and the museums remain open. Confirm opening times before you go.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

No. The streets of the center are for walking, with help from the funicular and city buses to overcome the slopes. Trains link Fribourg with Bulle and Gruyères.
