About Stedelijk Museum Schiedam
The Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, the municipal museum, occupies the former Sint-Jacobs Gasthuis, an 18th-century hospital with a classical façade on the Hoogstraat, the main street of the historic center.
The collection focuses on 20th-century and contemporary art, with emphasis on postwar Dutch artists, including those of the CoBrA movement. Temporary exhibitions change throughout the year and occupy several rooms in the building.
In the basement, an exhibition traces the local history: the port, the distilleries and the period when soot covered the houses, when the city earned the nickname Zwart Nazareth.
Admission is charged separately; check the current price list. It is close to the jenever museum, and both visits can fit in the same day.
