The city

What to expect from Schiedam.

City adjoining Rotterdam to the west, granted city rights in 1275 and famous as the capital of jenever. Distillation dominated the local economy for centuries, and huge windmills were built on the old city walls to power it. The historic center preserves brick warehouses, drawbridges, canals with old boats, the Nationaal Jenevermuseum, and these windmills, which are among the largest of their kind.
