About St. Pete Pier
St. Petersburg has had a pier on Tampa Bay since the early 20th century. The old 1973 pier, shaped like an inverted pyramid, closed in 2013 and was replaced by the St. Pete Pier, opened in July 2020, which occupies about 10 hectares between the downtown waterfront and the tip over the water.
The route features gardens, lawns, a small beach, a playground, fishing decks and an environmental education center about bay life. At the entrance, the sculpture Bending Arc by artist Janet Echelman — a large colorful net suspended in the air — changes shape with the wind.
At the tip, the pier offers views of the bay and the city center. There are restaurants along the way, and the walk to the tip can be done on foot or on the little train that circulates on the pier.
