About Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg
The Museum of Fine Arts was founded by collector Margaret Acheson Stuart and opened in 1965 on a bayfront site on Beach Drive. It was the city’s first art museum, and a roughly 3,000-square-meter wing opened in 2008 to expand the galleries.
The collection spans more than 5,000 years of history, with pieces from Antiquity, European, Asian and American art, Impressionist paintings including works by Claude Monet, pieces by Georgia O'Keeffe and a photography collection. Temporary exhibitions bring shows from other museums.
The Mediterranean-style building has interior courtyards and faces the waterfront park, a short walk from the St. Pete Pier and within easy distance of the Dalí Museum.
