The city
Small town at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, on the Kaweah River, next to the main entrance to Sequoia National Park at Ash Mountain. It is the closest base to the Giant Forest, with inns, cabins and restaurants along the river. From the entrance, the Generals Highway climbs on tight switchbacks to the sequoia groves, with the General Sherman, Moro Rock, the Giant Forest Museum and Crystal Cave.
