About Silver Strand State Beach

The Silver Strand is a low, narrow sandbar of about 11 km that links Coronado to Imperial Beach and separates San Diego Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The name comes from the tiny shells that collect on the ocean side sand and give it a silvery sheen.

The state beach occupies part of this isthmus and has about 4 km of Pacific coastline, with waves and room for long walks. On the other side of the road, paths lead to a bay-facing stretch of sand with calmer water, popular with families.

The park has a campground and parking adjacent to the sand. It is away from the bustle of downtown Coronado and is an option for those who want a more open, less urban beach.
