About Lovers Key State Park
Lovers Key State Park comprises four small barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico, between Fort Myers Beach to the north and Bonita Beach to the south. For a long time the islands were accessible only by boat, and the name comes from their reputation as an isolated spot for couples.
The main beach has about 3 km of light sand and is reached by a boardwalk from the parking area. On the inside of the islands, mangrove channels and lagoons can be explored by kayak or paddleboard, and it’s common to see dolphins, manatees seasonally and waterbirds. Dirt trails cut through the islands’ vegetation.
The park was hit by the 2022 and 2024 hurricanes and had structures rebuilt; check which areas are open before you go. Kayak and beach chair rentals are available in season.
