Reno–Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is about 70 km away via the Truckee road. Sacramento (SMF) is about 180 km via I-80. Amtrak trains and regional buses stop in Truckee, about 25 km away.

One to two days: one for downtown, the Gatekeeper's Museum and Sugar Pine Point, another for Palisades Tahoe.
When to go
June to September, for the lake, the Truckee River, the bike paths and the trails. December to March, for skiing at Palisades Tahoe. Autumn offers clear days and fewer people.

Do you need a car?
Helpful for Palisades Tahoe and Sugar Pine Point. Tahoe City’s downtown and the shoreline bike paths can be done on foot or by bicycle.
