About Imrich Winter Balneological Museum
The Imrich Winter Balneological Museum (Balneologické múzeum Imricha Wintera) is named after a member of the family that turned Piešťany into an internationally known spa. It was founded in the early 1930s with support from the town’s museum society and the Winter family, and is dedicated to the history of thermal treatments in the country.
The main building is the old spa ballroom (Kúpeľná dvorana, known as the Kursalon), built in 1893 on the edge of the town’s large park, Andrej Kmeť Park. The exhibitions tell the story of Piešťany’s waters and mud, display the country’s mineral springs and bring together archaeological finds and objects of regional ethnography.
The museum also has two other spaces: Dr. Liska’s villa, with an exhibition on the history of Slovak spas and sacred art, and the apartment of the poet Ivan Krasko, who lived in the town. The visit completes a tour of the Spa Island with the place’s historical context.
