About Hammam of Trenčianske Teplice

The Trenčianske Teplice hammam is a Turkish bath built in 1888, when the spa belonged to the Viennese Sina family. Architect Schmoranz used as his basis a design for a summer residence in Moorish style that he had prepared for a ruler of Egypt, and the result is a building unlike anything else in the region: domes, horseshoe arches, slender columns and colorful tiles.

The building is part of the group of 19th-century bathhouses in the heart of the spa and sits next to the thermal springs that give the town its name. The town’s waters have been used since the Middle Ages, and the Illésházy family owned the spa from 1582 until it was sold to Jozef Sina in 1835.

The building remains linked to the operation of the spa, so access to the interior follows the spa’s treatment rules, and visiting conditions change with the season.

Even without going inside, it’s worth taking time to admire the façade and combining the visit with a walk through the park that surrounds the bathhouses.
