About Orava Village Museum (Múzeum oravskej dediny)
The Orava Village Museum (Múzeum oravskej dediny) is in Brestová, about 3 km from Zuberec, in a clearing by the Studený potok stream with the Roháče in the background. It is one of the most extensive open‑air museums in Slovakia and shows how life in Orava villages looked before industrialization.
The buildings were brought from several villages in the region and reassembled in groups that recreate the settlement: peasant houses and those of the lesser nobility, barns, workshops and a wooden church. Interiors are furnished with everyday objects, tools and costumes, and panels explain the customs of each house.
Throughout the year the museum hosts festivals with music, dance and traditional crafts, and some special night visits. From the museum a trail of about 45 minutes leads to Zuberec.
