About Chopok
Chopok, at 2,024 meters, is the third-highest summit in the Low Tatras and the easiest to reach: cable cars rise from Jasná on the northern slope to near the top, where the Kamenná chata, a stone mountain hut, stands. The southern slope, on the Srdiečko and Krupová side, has a separate set of cable cars.
In winter the two slopes form the Jasná ski area, the largest in the country, with runs for all levels and powder zones popular with freeride skiers. In summer the cable cars take you to trails along the main ridge of the Low Tatras. The most popular route continues east to Ďumbier, the range’s highest peak at 2,043 meters.
On a clear day the view from the top reaches the High Tatras to the north, the Liptov basin and Liptovská Mara, and the Hron valley to the south. The ridge is exposed to wind and the weather changes quickly: fog and cold can appear even in July.
