About Belianska Cave
The Belianska Cave (Belianska jaskyňa) lies on the slope of Kobylí vrch, at the eastern end of the Belianske Tatras, above the settlement of Tatranská Kotlina, about 6 km from Ždiar. It is the largest stalactite cave in the Tatras and the only cave in the range open to the public. More than 3.6 km of galleries are known.
The entrance is at about 890 metres altitude. From the Tatranská Kotlina car park, a trail of roughly 1 km climbs through the forest, with about 120 metres of elevation gain, in some 25 minutes. The cave is managed by the Správa slovenských jaskýň, the body that oversees the country’s show caves, and visits are only possible with a guide.
The route passes through halls with stalactites, stalagmites and large calcite cascades, and by small lakes. The best‑known chamber is the Hudobná sieň, the Music Hall, which occasionally hosts concerts because of its acoustics. Belianska was one of the first caves in Europe to have electric lighting.
The tour includes hundreds of steps, both up and down, and the internal temperature is around 5 °C year‑round. Entry times are fixed, and the cave is closed one day a week.
