Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.
About 25 km from Zagreb. Regular buses connect Zagreb’s main bus station to Samobor terminal throughout the day. By car, the most used route is the A3 motorway, exiting at Sveta Nedelja. Zagreb Airport is about 45 km away. Samobor does not have a train station.
How many days
Half a day covers the square, the museum and the walk up to the castle. A full day allows adding the hike through the Anindol wood and a trip to the hills of the nature park. With two days you’ll have time for longer trails in Žumberak.
When to go
From spring to early autumn days are usually good for walking to the castle and through the hills. Summer can be hot and humid. Winter is cold, with snow in some years on the higher parts. The fašnik, the town’s carnival, takes place between February and March according to the Easter calendar; check the dates before you go.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not needed for the center, which is explored on foot, nor to get from Zagreb, which has frequent buses. A car helps for the trails and the villages in the nature park, where public transport is scarce.
