About Turina Fortress
Turina Fortress occupies the hilltop around which Skradin spreads, between the quay and the marina. Local sources link its construction to the time of Pavao Šubić of Bribir, who ruled the region from the late 13th to the early 14th century, when Skradin was one of the family’s seats.
The site was used to watch the entrance of the Krka River and the roads leading to the town. The fortress continued to play a defensive role in Skradin in the following centuries, including during Ottoman rule, according to studies of the city’s history.
Walls and parts of the defenses remain, and two viewpoints open onto the river, Skradin bridge and the marina. From the top you can clearly understand the town’s layout, built on the two slopes of the hill facing the water.
The climb begins in the old town, via signposted stone steps, and takes about 10 minutes.
