About Krka Monastery
The Krka Monastery is an Orthodox religious center dedicated to the Archangel Michael, in a quiet stretch of the river valley about 3 km east of Kistanje. It is within Krka National Park.
The monastery has medieval origins and was erected over an earlier religious building. The complex was built on a Roman-era site, and there are ancient catacombs underneath.
The monastery includes a church, bell tower, cloister and monks’ living quarters, as well as a seminary. Visits show the church and part of the complex, always with respect for the religious life of the place.
From April to October the park organizes a boat trip from Roški slap of about two and a half hours, which passes the medieval fortresses of Trošenj and Nečven and includes half an hour at the monastery. It is also reachable by car via the Kistanje road.
