Diksmuide – West Flanders Destination Ypres and the front
How to get there
-
Brussels Airport (BRU) Zaventem
-
Station Diksmuide 1 km
Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Diksmuide has a station on line 73, which runs from Ghent to De Panne. From Brussels, check whether there is a direct train or a change in Ghent. From Ypres, the simplest connection is by car.
How many days
One day for the IJzertoren, the Dodengang and Vladslo. You can combine it with Nieuwpoort the same day by car, but it will be a tight schedule.
When to go
From mid‑February to the end of November all sites are usually open. The Dodengang is closed from December to mid‑February, and the IJzertoren closes for a few weeks in January. In summer, from June to August, the long days make it easier to combine the three sites.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
The IJzertoren is within walking distance of the centre. The Dodengang is about 1.5 km from it along the IJzer riverbank, and Vladslo lies a few kilometres away in the countryside. A car or bicycle makes getting around easier.
