Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.
Check before booking. By train, on the Liège–Namur line, which stops at Huy station, about 25 minutes from Liège and 30 minutes from Namur. By car, via the N90, which runs along the river between the two cities, or the E42 motorway. A cable car departs from the riverbank near Esplanada Batta and goes up to the fort.
How many days
One day is enough to visit the fort, the collegiate church, the Grand-Place and to climb the Mur de Huy. Huy is also an easy stop on a train or car trip through the Meuse valley between Liège and Namur.
When to go
The fort and the cable car usually open from April and close in the autumn; check the dates before you go. In April, the cycling race Flèche Wallonne finishes at the top of the Mur de Huy and the town fills up. In winter, from December to February, days are short.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
No. The station is close to the centre, and the fort, the collegiate church, the Grand-Place and the Mur de Huy can be reached on foot or by cable car. A car is useful for exploring the Meuse valley and the region's castles.
