About Shell Beach
Shell Beach is in the bay of L'Haridon Bight, about 45 km from Denham. Instead of sand, the beach is made up of small white shells from a single species of mollusk, which have accumulated for thousands of years in layers several meters deep.
This mollusk thrives there because the bay water is much saltier than the open sea, which keeps predators away. Over time, the older shells compacted and formed blocks that were once used to build houses in Denham.
The beach stretches for tens of kilometers, with shallow, very clear water. You can wade into the water, which is calm and very salty.
There is no entrance fee. The area has parking and signs explaining the beach formation.
