Approximate distances. Check flights and bus, train or boat schedules before you travel.

By train on the Blue Mountains line from Sydney Central Station, about 2 hours; Leura is the station before Katoomba. By car, about 105 km on the Great Western Highway.

How many days

Half a day or a full day, combined with Katoomba: the main street, the cascades and a stretch of the valley rim walk.

When to go

In spring, September to November, the gardens are usually in bloom; in autumn, March to May, the trees brought from Europe change color. Winter is cold and summer is warmer in the valleys.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

Do you need a car?

Not for the town center and the cascades, which are reached on foot from the station. A car or taxi helps for the more distant Sublime Point lookout.
