How many days
Two or three days: one for the whales (in season), one for K'gari on a full-day tour, and half a day for the Esplanade and the pier.
When to go
From July to October for the humpback whales. Spring and autumn usually have mild days; summer is hot and humid.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
Not essential: whale and K'gari tours do pick-ups from accommodations, and local buses run along the Esplanade. A car helps for River Heads and to explore the coast.
