About Zytturm (Zug Clock Tower)
The Zytturm is Zug’s symbol. The tower stands on Kolinplatz, at the entrance to the old town, and was part of the medieval fortifications that surrounded the historic core. At 41.5 m, it was raised over the centuries until acquiring the pointed roof covered in blue-and-white tiles, the colors of Zug’s coat of arms.
On the facade, the astronomical clock indicates, besides the hours, the day of the week, the moon phase, the month and the leap year. Painted coats of arms recall the territories linked to the town in the past.
From the tower, the old town extends toward the lake, with narrow streets, old houses, the early-16th-century town hall and the Kolinplatz fountain. The Burg Zug and other towers of the former wall are a few minutes away.
Climbing inside the tower is possible at certain times, with access via an app or credential; the tourist office provides current conditions.
