About Mount Zug
The Zugerberg is the town’s mountain. Its plateau, just over 900 m in altitude, is a few minutes from the center and is used by residents and visitors for walking, running, cycling and, in winter, snow walks when present.
The simplest ascent is via the Zugerbergbahn, the funicular that departs from Schönegg, reached by bus from Zug station or the old town. It is also possible to hike up on marked trails.
At the top, meadows, farms and woods form a network of paths with viewpoints facing Lake Zug and the central Alps, including the Rigi and Pilatus on clear days. There are restaurants and picnic areas near the upper station.
For those spending only one day in Zug, the mountain completes the visit to the historic center and the waterfront.
