About HR Giger Museum

The museum occupies Château St‑Germain, a manor house on Gruyères’ main street. It was the artist HR Giger, born in Chur, who chose the place to assemble his work.

Giger became world-famous for the creatures he designed for science-fiction films, which earned him an Oscar for visual effects. His style mixes bodies and machines into dark figures he called biomechanical.

The collection includes paintings, sculptures, furniture and objects by the artist, as well as works by other surrealist and visionary artists. The contrast with the medieval town is part of the experience.

Opposite, a bar decorated in the same style, with a ceiling of vertebrae and walls of organic shapes, completes the artist’s universe.
