The route

What the Circuito Tere-Fri is

The Circuito Tere-Fri follows the RJ-130 between Teresópolis and Nova Friburgo. The road crosses the Região Serrana of the state with bends, slopes covered in Mata Atlântica and areas of vegetable cultivation. The driving route provides access to rural landscapes and to visits that require leaving the main axis.

On the Teresópolis side, Vargem Grande and Venda Nova help locate the rural corridor. On the Nova Friburgo approach, Campo do Coelho gathers agricultural production, the Jardim do Nêgo and the Casa Suíça in Conquista. Accesses to the Parque Estadual dos Três Picos require their own planning, separate from driving time.

This itinerary includes two municipal stops and ends in Nova Friburgo, with no mandatory return. Hikes, mountaineering and cultural visits can extend the trip; choose activities and confirm access conditions before you go.

How many days

Allow two days to travel the road with stops and visit cultural attractions. To add a hike in the valleys or in the Parque Estadual dos Três Picos, set aside an extra day and arrange access to the chosen trail.

Best time to go

Days with stable forecasts favor mountain views. In winter, bring clothing for the low temperatures of the serra. Rain and fog require caution with scheduling and traffic conditions; also confirm park access.

How to travel it

Leave Teresópolis via the RJ-130 and follow it to Nova Friburgo, passing the Teresópolis rural corridor and the Nova Friburgo district of Campo do Coelho. The main link is paved. Visits in the valleys use their own accesses, which may be unpaved; check each turnoff before the trip.

Who it's for

For those who enjoy driving through the serra and alternating rural landscapes, art and immigration history. Mountain activities are optional and depend on fitness, equipment and choosing a suitable trail.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions about the Circuito Tere-Fri

Choose the trail and access point in advance, check visitation rules and assess whether a guide is needed. Duration and required preparation vary between valley walks and mountain ascents.
