About Kunětická hora Castle
Kunětická hora is a hill of volcanic origin that rises about 80 meters above the Elbe plain, north of Pardubice. A castle stood on the summit by the mid-14th century; during the Hussite wars it was the base of commander Diviš Bořek of Miletínek, who rebuilt it as a fortress.
In 1491 the castle passed to the Pernštejn family, who reinforced it with two towers and a system of bastions and roundels, one of the most advanced of the time. During the Thirty Years’ War, Swedish troops captured and burned it in 1645, and it fell into ruin.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Pardubice museum association bought the castle and began reconstruction following a design by Dušan Jurkovič. The visit includes the palace, rooms with early 16th-century murals, the chapel and the climb up the tower, from which you can see much of Eastern Bohemia.
The castle’s silhouette appears in Czech TV series such as Arabela, and the courtyard hosts festivals and events throughout the year.
