About Calanque de Sugiton

Sugiton is in the south of Marseille, near the Luminy university campus, inside the Parc national des Calanques. A few meters off the coast a rock called Torpilleur (torpedo boat) rises from the water because it resembles a warship. Beside it is the calanque des Pierres Tombées, with large stone blocks on the beach.

The trail starts at the bus terminus in Luminy, crosses the pine forest and descends to the Sugiton viewpoint, from where you see the calanque from above. From there the descent to the waterfront is steeper, with loose rock.

The excess of visitors in summer caused soil erosion and threatens the pine forest. For that reason the national park established a mandatory reservation for the coastal section (Sugiton and Pierres Tombées) in high season. In 2026 it applied on weekends at the end of June and September and every day from late June to late August. Dates change every year: check before you go.

The reservation is free, is made online starting three days before and is valid for the whole day. On days when the massifs are closed due to fire risk (access is regulated from June 1 to September 30), reservations are canceled.
