About Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin
The Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin occupies the grounds of the former general hospital of Dijon, south of the center, at the point where the Route des Grands Crus begins. It is part of a French network of gastronomy cities and is themed around the two UNESCO listings linked to Burgundy: the gastronomic meal of the French and the climats of the vineyards.
The cultural hub brings together permanent and temporary exhibitions on cooking and wine. The Chapelle des Climats, the large chapel of the former hospital, has an exhibition on the region's vineyards, and the medieval Chapelle Sainte-Croix de Jérusalem houses works from the period. The 1204 space tells the urban history of Dijon.
The École des Vins de Bourgogne, connected to the region's producers, offers paid introductory tasting workshops, and there are cooking classes and events throughout the year. A climat, to understand the exhibitions, is a small named plot of vineyard defined by its soil and position on the slope.
Some of the shops and restaurants in the complex have closed, so check what is open on the program before you go.
