About Zumwalt Meadow and Cedar Grove

Cedar Grove is at the bottom of Kings Canyon, a canyon carved by glaciers and the Kings River, with granite cliffs over 1,000 meters high. It is reached via the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway, Highway 180, which drops from Grant Grove for about 50 km, with viewpoints over the canyon and the river.

Zumwalt Meadow is a flat meadow by the river, surrounded by the cliffs of the Grand Sentinel and North Dome. An approximately 2.4 km trail circles the meadow, crosses a suspension bridge over the river and passes a stretch of fallen rocks from the slope. Nearby are Roaring River Falls, a waterfall reached by a short trail, and the start of long trails into the high country.

The road to Cedar Grove closes in winter, generally from November to April or May, and only operates in season.
