About Palm Springs Art Museum
The Palm Springs Art Museum began in 1938 as a desert natural history museum and over time shifted its focus to art. The main building, of dark stone, sits at the foot of the mountain, one block from Palm Canyon Drive.
The collection includes modern and contemporary painting and sculpture, Western U.S. and Indigenous art, a contemporary glass collection and a sculpture garden. There are works by artists such as Henry Moore, Helen Frankenthaler and Andy Warhol, and temporary exhibitions.
The museum also maintains, on another downtown street, the Architecture and Design Center, housed in a former modernist bank designed by E. Stewart Williams, with exhibitions about the architects who designed the city’s houses and buildings.
