About Norton Museum of Art
The Norton Museum of Art was opened in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton, a Chicago steel industrialist who later lived in West Palm Beach and donated his collection to create the museum. Today it is the largest art museum in South Florida, located between downtown and the El Cid neighborhood.
The collections bring together four main areas: American art, with painters such as Edward Hopper and Georgia O'Keeffe; European art, from Monet, Gauguin and Matisse to Picasso; Chinese art, with bronzes, jades and ancient ceramics; and photography, one of the museum’s strongest collections. There is also contemporary art and temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
The building was expanded and renovated by the architecture firm of Norman Foster and reopened in 2019, with a new street-facing entrance beneath a large canopy, and a sculpture garden with mature trees. The garden and the courtyard are part of the visit.
