About Park Avenue and Central Park of Winter Park
Park Avenue is Winter Park’s main thoroughfare. The city was founded in the 1880s as a winter retreat for families from the northern United States. The street has wide sidewalks, low-rise buildings and a string of shops, cafés, restaurants and galleries, with several inner courtyards that connect the avenue to the side streets.
On one side of the avenue is Central Park, a lawn with oaks, fountains and a rose garden running along the train line that crosses the town center. The park hosts fairs and events throughout the year, and on Saturday mornings the farmers’ market fills the West Meadow at the corner of New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard.
The street concentrates the city’s main attractions: the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is at its northern end, the Albin Polasek Museum and the lakes are a few blocks away, and at the southern end sits the Rollins College campus, with Mediterranean-style buildings and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum.
