About Venetian Pool
The Venetian Pool opened in 1924 in an abandoned coral limestone quarry that once supplied stone for Coral Gables’ earliest houses. The city’s founder, George Merrick, commissioned architect Phineas Paist and artist Denman Fink to transform the site into a Venetian-inspired setting with towers, loggias, a stone bridge and striped posts.
The pool is fed with fresh water from artesian wells and includes cascades, grottos and a small sand beach. In 1981 it was entered on the National Register of Historic Places as the only pool on the list.
The City of Coral Gables, which operates the pool, completed a major restoration and reopened it in December 2025. Operations follow a seasonal schedule, there are periods of closure for maintenance, and minimum age rules apply for children.
