About Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

The memorial was created by a group of Holocaust survivors who lived in South Florida and, in 1984, decided to establish a permanent place of remembrance. The design is by architect and sculptor Kenneth Treister, and the dedication in February 1990 was attended by Elie Wiesel. The address, 1933–1945 Meridian Avenue, repeats the years of the Nazi regime.

The route begins with an entrance area and continues down a corridor that leads to the central sculpture, the Sculpture of Love and Anguish: a multi‑meter bronze arm with an Auschwitz tattooed number rises from a reflecting pool, surrounded by human figures clinging to it. Around it are panels with the history of the Holocaust and the Memorial Wall, where families request inclusion of the names of deceased relatives.

It is a place for reflection, a few minutes from the beach, and the visit requires time to read the panels. The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is next door and provides a place to pause afterward.
