About Sugar Pine Point State Park and Ehrman Mansion
Sugar Pine Point State Park occupies a promontory on the lake’s west shore, covered with tall pines and cedars. The highlight is the Ehrman mansion, also called Pine Lodge, built in 1903 for banker Isaias Hellman of San Francisco and later inherited by the Ehrman family.
The three-story house of stone and wood, with large porches facing the lake, shows how wealthy families spent summers at Tahoe in the early 20th century. The lawn slopes down to the water, with a pier and boathouse. The park also preserves a 19th-century settler’s log cabin.
At the 1960 Winter Olympics the park hosted the cross-country skiing and biathlon events, and the trails are still used in winter. In summer there are rocky beaches, forest trails and a campground.

How to get there
It is on Highway 89 in Tahoma, about 16 km south of Tahoe City. A parking fee is charged.

Take the guided tour of the mansion and then sit on the lawn in front of the lake, one of the quietest spots on the west shore.
