About Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center

Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner moved in 1945 to a wooden farmhouse in Springs, a hamlet of East Hampton, on the banks of Accabonac Creek. Pollock converted the barn into a studio and there created, between 1947 and 1950, the large drip and splatter paintings on canvases laid on the floor that made him famous.

The studio floor still bears the paint marks from those works, and visitors wear protective covers to walk on it. The house preserves the couple’s furniture, books and jazz record collection. After Pollock’s death in 1956, Krasner also painted in the studio.

The property belongs to Stony Brook University, which maintains it as a museum and study center. Visits are offered only part of the year, generally from May to October, by reservation and in small groups.
