About Church of the Assumption of Alboraya
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is in Alboraia’s historic center. It dates back to the medieval period and was rebuilt in Baroque style, with the bell tower dominating the low surrounding streets.
One of the chapels is dedicated to the Miracle dels Peixets. There are the silver casket and the chalice that, according to tradition, the parish priest carried in 1348 when the hosts were lost in the Carraixet ravine. A study by the University of Valencia dates the casket to the mid-14th century and links it to the Della Volta family.
The church is part of the Holy Grail Route of the Valencian Community, which brings together places connected to the eucharistic tradition in the region. There are also altars dedicated to Christ of Providence and the Recumbent Christ.
Around the church, the historic center preserves the old layout, with small squares and low houses, and sculptures related to the orchard and the miracle, including works by local ceramist Enric Mestre.
