About Church of Saint John the Baptist of Valls
The arciprestal church of Sant Joan Baptista dominates Valls’s center. It was built in the 16th century with a Gothic single-nave structure and received a Renaissance façade. The bell tower is the tallest in Catalonia and serves as a landmark visible from afar for those approaching the town.
In another central building, on Carrer de la Cort, the Capella del Roser houses Catalan ceramic panels from the 17th century. Among them is the depiction of the Battle of Lepanto, one of the most cited tile works in the region.
The tourist office organizes guided visits that include climbing the bell tower, with views over the town and the Camp de Tarragona. Days and times of these visits vary throughout the year.
The church is a few steps from the Plaça del Blat and is easily combined with the Museu Casteller and a walk through the old Jewish quarter.
