About 25 km from Alicante via the A-7 and the CV-800, in the direction of Alcoi. There are regular buses from Alicante. Alicante-Elche airport is about 40 km away.
How many days
Half a day covers the center, the church and the walk up to the castle. It works as a day trip from Alicante or combined with Alcoi, farther north.
When to go
In spring and autumn the weather is usually mild for climbing the castle. From October to December is the turrón production season, for Christmas. Summer is hot, but cooler than the coast at night.

Do you need a car?
Not essential: there are buses from Alicante. A car gives more freedom of schedules and allows combining Xixona with other inland towns in the same day.

Yes. Xixona is the Valencian name and Jijona the Spanish name; both are official.
What is the difference between Jijona turrón and Alicante turrón?
Jijona turrón is soft, made with ground almond; Alicante turrón is hard, with whole almonds. Both are produced in Xixona under Protected Geographical Indications.
Can you visit the castle of Xixona?
Yes. Torre Grossa castle is visited from the outside, by walking up from the center. Access is free.
