About Dunajec Rafting
The Dunajec descent on wooden rafts (pltníctvo na Dunajci) is the best-known activity in the Pieniny and has existed for more than a century. The rafts are made of wooden canoes lashed side by side and are piloted by two raftmen with long poles, many of whom wear the traditional dress of the local Goral people.
The most popular route departs from Červený Kláštor and ends near Lesnica, after about 9 km through the Dunajec gorge. The river winds tightly between limestone cliffs and forests, with small rapids that do not require experience. Along the way, the raftmen tell stories and legends of the Pieniny. The trip takes around an hour and a half.
There are several embarkation points on the Slovak side, such as Červený Kláštor, Majere and Kvašné Lúky, with stretches of different lengths. From the end of the descent you return to Červený Kláštor on foot or by bicycle along the riverside trail, or by bus. The trip is paid separately; check the current price list.

Best time
Generally from April or May to October, depending on river level and weather. In the morning the lines are shorter. On days of heavy rain or flooding, descents may be suspended.
How to get there
Embarkation points are in Červený Kláštor and the nearby settlements of Majere and Kvašné Lúky, on the banks of the Dunajec, with parking available.
Tip
Bring a jacket even on warm days: in the gorge, near the water, the temperature drops. Keep your phone and documents in a waterproof bag.
