Tomášovský Viewpoint (Tomášovce)
A rock cliff about 667 meters above the entrance to the Hornád canyon, in the northern Slovak Paradise, with views of the river and the forest. It is reached from Čingov in about an hour.

About Tomášovský Viewpoint (Tomášovce)
Tomášovský výhľad is a limestone rock outcrop at about 667 meters altitude, on the edge of the Hornád canyon, near Spišské Tomášovce and Smižany. It is the most visited viewpoint in the Slovak Paradise: the natural platform projects over the valley, with the Hornád river far below and the continuous plateau forest around it.
The most used route starts at the Čingov tourist center and passes a place called Ďurkovec, climbing through forest in about an hour. The ascent is of moderate difficulty, without metal stairs, and can be done by families with some fitness. The rock at the viewpoint is not fenced at all points, so care is needed at the edge.
The viewpoint marks the start of the Prielom Hornádu, the roughly 16 km canyon the river has carved between the plateau edge and the main massif. From Tomášovský výhľad the trail can continue to the Letanovce mill and into the canyon, where metal walkways and steps follow the cliffs beside the water, and to the Kláštorská roklina gorge, which climbs to Kláštorisko.
A full circuit starting from Čingov, passing the viewpoint, descending to the canyon and returning via Kláštorisko takes more than five hours. If you have limited time, climb to the viewpoint and return the same way.

Best time
In the morning, with light on the canyon and fewer people on the rock. From May to October the trail is usually dry. Avoid the rock edge in rain or ice.
How to get there
From Čingov, about 6 km from Spišská Nová Ves, on foot via the trail that goes through Ďurkovec, in roughly one hour. To Čingov: bus or car.
Tip
Combine the viewpoint with a section of the boardwalks along the Hornád canyon. Stay back from the rock edge, which does not always have protection.
