About Palcmanská Maša

Palcmanská Maša is a reservoir lake in the Hnilec River valley, south of the Slovak Paradise, between the villages of Dedinky and Stratená. The water is green‑blue and is among the coldest reservoir lakes in Slovakia, due to the altitude and the shade from the mountains.

On one side the lake is bordered by the Geravy limestone cliffs, which rise almost vertically from the shore, and on the other by the houses and the beach of Dedinky. The railway line from Margecany crosses the water in a straight section, and a train passing over the lake is one of the most photographed images of the region, both from the shore and from surrounding hills.

A path circles the lake and offers a relaxed walk suitable for families with children, with benches and viewpoints toward the cliffs. In summer, Dedinky’s shore has access points for swimming, and trails leave from there that climb to viewpoints on the plateau.

In winter the lake freezes and the landscape is covered in snow, with cross‑country ski trails in the surroundings.
