The city
São Thomé das Letras sits atop a quartzite mountain range, at about 1,440 meters altitude, in southern Minas. The old houses, the churches and the downtown streets are made of São Tomé stone, laid without mortar. The town grew around the Gruta de São Thomé, beside the Mother Church, and on the high part is the Parque Municipal Antônio Rosa, with the Casa da Pirâmide. In the surroundings there are waterfalls such as Eubiose, about 3 km away.

The local experience
Stone church from the 18th century in Praça Barão de Alfenas, in downtown São Thomé das Letras, built beside the grotto where, according to tradition, the image of São Tomé was found.

Quartzite grotto beside the Igreja Matriz in downtown São Thomé das Letras, linked to the legend that gave the town its name and with rock paintings on the walls. A stairway behind it leads to a viewpoint over the center.
Scenic complex at the top of São Thomé das Letras, about 500 meters from the Igreja Matriz, featuring the Casa da Pirâmide, the Cruzeiro, the Pedra da Bruxa and a stone viewpoint. It is the most sought-after spot for the sunset.
Discover Antônio Rosa Municipal Park
A roughly 10-meter waterfall with a wide pool, about 3 km from the center of São Thomé das Letras on the road to Sobradinho. A short, marked trail leads from the entrance to the falls.
