The city
Biribiri is an old workers' village of Diamantina, about 15 km from the town center, inside the Parque Estadual do Biribiri, in the Serra do Espinhaço. It was built for the workers of a textile factory that operated from 1876 to 1973, founded by Bishop Dom João Antônio dos Santos. Today the village has restored houses, the chapel, restaurants and a lawn by the river, and the surrounding park includes waterfalls such as Cachoeira da Sentinela and Cachoeira dos Cristais.
