About Žumberak – Samobor Hills Nature Park

The Žumberak – Samoborsko gorje Nature Park was established in 1999 and protects the Croatian side of the Žumberak range and the Samobor hills along the border with Slovenia. The area extends across the territories of Samobor, Jastrebarsko and Ozalj and some neighboring municipalities.

The landscape combines forests, meadows, vineyards and villages scattered on the slopes. Within the park are specially protected areas, such as the Slapnica landscape near Krašić, with streams, small waterfalls and mills, and the Japetić forest reserve.

The park has dozens of waymarked trails, as well as cycling routes, and mountain shelters that support hikes. The administration is based in Slani Dol, within Samobor’s territory.

Samobor is one of the most commonly used gateways, with roads and buses to some villages. To reach the higher and more remote parts, a car makes access easier.
