About Namur Cable Car
The Téléphérique de Namur crosses the Sambre and climbs the Citadelle hill in about four minutes. The lower station is at Place Maurice Servais in the historic centre, on the opposite side of the river. The upper station is on the Esplanade, next to the Pavillon, the digital art building that came from the Milan World Expo.
The route is about 650 metres long and overcomes a height difference of a little more than 100 metres. The cabins are small, seating six people, and run in trains of three. Therefore, on busy days a queue forms at the lower station.
Namur once had a cable car to the citadel in the past century. Today's line was built from scratch and has become part of the visit: many people ride up and walk down on foot, via the ramps and stairways, watching the city draw closer.
During the ascent, look back. You can see the Sambre, the bridges, the green dome of the Cathédrale Saint-Aubain and, in the distance, the Meuse valley. At the top, the Esplanade gives direct access to the Terra Nova visitor centre and the wall paths.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
The ride takes about four minutes. Add the waiting time in line on summer weekends.
Best time
Right at opening or in the mid-afternoon on weekdays, when queues are shorter. In strong winds the service may be suspended. Opening hours vary by season; check before you go.
How to get there
The lower station is at Place Maurice Servais, near the Sambre riverbank, about a ten-minute walk from Place d'Armes and roughly fifteen minutes from Namur train station. Follow the signs to the Citadelle.
Tip
Buy a return ticket only if you don't plan to walk back down. The descent via the ramps, passing the Château des Comtes, offers great photo opportunities and ends near the confluence. Those with a stroller or mobility issues will find the cable car the easiest way to reach the top.
